Born in St. Petersburg, Florida and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Julie Carr attended the University of South Florida where she received her BA in Theatre Design in 2012. While at USF, Julie learned that she loved working in a team-oriented environment and eventually found her passion for costume design.
Julie graduated with her MFA in Costume Design from University of California, Irvine in 2015. At UCI, Julie designed three full productions: Spring Awakening, a movement-based A Christmas Carol and the devised The Electra Project. Julie also worked in the UCI Costume Shop regularly as a specialty crafts person and stitcher. In the summer of 2013, Julie worked at Western Costume Company under Bobi Garland in the research library and assisted with costume research for new film and television projects, as well as helped digitally catalogue Western’s Star Collection of film and TV costumes.
During the summer of 2014, Julie was fortunate enough to have been chosen as the Costume Design Intern for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences internship, which only takes one intern a year. She worked at United American Costume helping with major TV and film productions, and also worked with two different major TV/Film designers during her time with the Academy.
Since graduating from UCI, Julie has worked in many costume related fields - ranging from major television shows, commercials, film and live theatre. She is currently a Costume Design Manager at the Los Angeles Opera.
